The Caucasian Regional Training – Workshop “Physical and Mental/Psychological Consequences of Torture. Principles of Documentation and Reporting according to the Istanbul Protocol, Treatment and Rehabilitation” will be held in Tbilisi, Hotel Vere Palace (22/24 Kuchishvili Str.), from 23 till 25 of September, 2010.

Opening Session: 10.00 a.m., 23rd of September, 2010 at the Conference Hall. Language of the Training-Workshop: English, Russian, Georgian with simultaneous translation

TRAINING WORKSHOP will be provided for Doctors working with risk groups (Forensic Medical Experts, Psychiatrists, etc.); and legal Experts and Human Rights Defenders

This training – workshop will be held in the framework of the RCT/EMPATHY’s project “Strengthening the System of Rehabilitation for Torture Victims in Georgia” (EIDHR/2008/148 – 184).

Co – organizers and partners of this training – workshop are: Penal Reform International (PRI) and Georgian Medical Association.

During the training – workshop on international standards of documentation and reporting of torture (Istanbul Protocol), as well as principles of multi – faced rehabilitation for victims of torture about 17 medical experts and 11 legal experts from Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as about 6 legal experts and 14 medical experts from Georgia, will be trained. Totally about 50 experts – health specialists, lawyers and human right defenders will be trained during this programme.

Donors of above mentioned RCT/EMPATHY’s project are: European Union, UNVFVT and IRCT.

The representatives of the Donor organizations, The Public Defender of Georgia, as well as National Medical Associations, Leading Forensic Experts, and International Experts from the IRCT will be invited at the Opening Session.

All trainer/experts have international experience of training/workshops in the Istanbul Protocol – UN Manual on the Effective Investigation and Documentation of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Expert from IRCT is one of the authors of this Manual.

This training – workshop is accredited at the Georgian MoH CME/CPD Programme.
